Cashion didn’t have its best offensive day of the season.

The Lady Wildcats didn’t need it.

With a smothering defense, Cashion pushed its way into the consolation semifinals of its 2A area tournament with Thursday’s 29-10 victory over Talihina in Muskogee.

“They said it was the best defense they’ve come across this year,” said coach Andrea Taylor after her squad improved to 19-10.

Talihina was held scoreless in the first quarter and only had five points entering the fourth.

Cashion got all the points it needed in the first quarter as it led 14-0.

The Lady Wildcats were up 16-4 at the half and 21-5 entering the fourth.

Talihina was just 1 of 30 (3.3 percent) from 3-point range.

Megan Shafer paced Cashion with 10 points.

Addison McCracken added eight while Brooke Shafer scored four.

Cashion played Stratford on Friday afternoon (after press time of this edition).

The winner advances to play in Saturday’s area consolation championship for the right to advance to state.
