Longhorns split showdowns at Drummond
Dover’s first trip outside of its own gym proved to be a strong test.
But also one that the Lady Longhorns passed.
Dover fought off an early deficit and held off a late shooting rally by the home team to down Drummond 55-50 on Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs scored the game’s first eight points before Dover closed on a 17-1 run.
Katelyn Harviston and Rylee Buck each scored five points during that stretch.
Harviston didn’t slow down.
She scored six more in the second quarter to help keep Dover’s lead, although it was trimmed to two points.
She scored five more in the third as, once again, Drummond cut into its deficit.
The Lady Bulldogs outscored Dover 25-18 in the middle two frames.
But Dover’s offense again woke up in the fourth.
Buck re-emerged with five points again, matched by Karlee Harviston’s five points.
Katelyn Harviston scored six more.
All of it was needed as Drummond buried five 3-pointers in the quarter.
Despite making just 2 of 8 free throws in the fourth, Dover extended its lead.
Caitlin Busch scored 19 points to lead Drummond and Kate Mann scored nine.
Both made three 3-pointers.
Katelyn Harviston led all scorers with 22 points.
Karlee Harviston finished with 16 and Buck scored 10.
Dover improved to 3-0.
Bulldogs overpower Dover boys
Drummond flexed its muscle early and it was more than enough to keep Dover from completing the sweep.
The Bulldogs got a big first quarter and rode it to a 53-23 victory over the visiting Longhorns on Friday.
Drummond returns nearly its whole roster from last year’s Class A state tournament team and looked the part early on offense and the entirety of the game on defense.
Tyler Norris and Colten Dillingham combined for five 3-pointers and every Drummond point as the home team raced to a 23-6 lead after a quarter.
The pace slowed for the rest of the game, but Dover never managed to creep back into it.
Norris finished the night with 21 points while Dillingham scored 14.
Dover (1-2) got eight points from Lucas Conrady and six from Casen Buck.
