Kingfisher has dominated the boys bracket of the Wheat Capital Tournament for the better part of the last decade and its first showing there in 2023 was no different.
The top-seeded Jackets manhandled Perry 79-31 Thursday to move into the semifinals.
KHS played Sunrise Christian on Friday night (after press time).
Xavier Ridenour got the Jackets going early with 11 points in the first quarter as they took a 25-2 lead.
It was a 47-14 advantage at halftime before Drake Friesen nailed a trio of 3-pointers in the third quarter.
Friesen made four treys overall and scored a gamehigh 16 points.
Ridenour finished with 15, all in the first half.
Cash Slezickey added 11 points and Jud Birdwell nine.
The KHS girls were in an early track meet with Sunrise Christian Academy of Bel Aire, Kan.
Sunrise only completed a sprint while the Lady Jackets finished a mile run.
KHS broke open a close game with a solid second half and pulled away, 7347.
The teams went backand- forth in the first quarter, one that saw the Lady Jackets lead 23-14. The pace remained high in the second quarter, though the scoring slowed a bit before KHS took a 40-28 advantage into the break.
Sunrise only scored 19 points in the second half as KHS kept its pace.
Four Lady Jackets reached double figures and a fifth just missed out.
Addy Matthews led the way with 22 points. She scored 10 in that torrid first quarter.
Peyton Walker knocked down three 3-pointers and scored 13.
Raegan Snider added two more treys as a part of her 12 points and fellow sophomore Kadyn Daugherty scored 10.
Emily Myers chipped in nine.
Kingfisher made 10 3-pointers in the game.
The Lady Jackets played Woodward Friday in the semifinals (after press time).
Three Rivers Conference Girls Okarche’s quest for four conference tournament titles in a row began Thursday with a 67-29 victory over Crescent on the Lady Warriors’ home court.
Okarche led 24-3 after a quarter and cruised the rest of the way into the semifinals.
Emma Stover led all scorers with 21 points. Tyson Endres added 11 while Jadyn Rother scored 10.
Crescent was led by Zori Wilson and Calen Cox, who scored nine apiece.
The Lady Warriors advanced to play Cashion in the semifinals. Cashion needed overtime, but was able to knock off Watonga 53-50 to advance.
Megan Shafer scored 23 points, but fouled out late in the fourth quarter.
Reese Williams stepped up on both ends of the floor, including hitting some clutch free throws as part of her 10 points.
Lauren Jenkins added 12 for the Lady Wildcats.
Hennessey suffered its second straight setback as it was defeated 50-39 by Thomas in the quarterfinals.
The game was tied after a quarter, but Thomas outscored the Lady Eagles 13-2 in the second.
Katie Kennedy scored 21, but was the only Lady Eagle in double figures.
Boys
Cashion is the four-time defending champion of the tournament, but will have to go through the top seed in order to get a fifth straight crown.
The Wildcats on Thursday defeated Oklahoma Bible Academy 48-38 in the opening round at Okarche High School.
The Wildcats were able to methodically build up a 15-point lead through three quarters.
Nathan Nabavi led the team with 14 points.
Jackson Vandruff scored 13 and Kamden Miller nine.
That pitted Cashion against top-seeded Hennessey on Friday (after press time).
The Eagles dispatched of Thomas, 68-42, in their opener.
The Terriers hung in there early, but couldn’t keep up the pace.
Hennessey closed the first quarter strong to lead by seven, then built a 37-24 halftime lead. The Eagles opened the second half with a 21-7 run.
Thomas had no answer for James Sims and Jael Torres.
The duo combined for 38 points, led by Sims’ 21. Both got all their points through three quarters.
Okarche’s boys rode their quick start into the semifinals as they handled Crescent, 75-40.
The Warriors jumped to a 21-2 lead after a quarter and added a 24-9 run in the third.
They got 16 points out of Easton Roby while Jett Mueggenborg scored 15.
Caden Schieber contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Tigers were led by Bosten Cox as he netted 21 points.
Okarche took on Fairview in Friday’s semifinals (after press time). The Yellowjackets beat Watonga 52-39 in the opening round.
Hammon Warrior Classic Both Lomega squads cruised into the semifinal rounds out west.
The Raiders defeated the host Warriors 75-52 in the quarterfinals.
Lance Yost scored 12 of his game-high 19 in the first quarter and led four Raiders in double figures.
Ben Marsh scored 13 while Owen Duffy scored 12 and Brooks Uhlenhake and Chase Burton 11 apiece.
The team hit 13 3-pointers, including three each by Burton, Marsh and Kelby Ott, who finished with nine points.
The Lady Raiders eased their way to an 83-15 victory over Corn Bible Academy.
Lomega gave up just four field goals in the game, none in the second and third quarters when CBA combined for two points.
Abby Swart buried four 3-pointers en route to scoring 17 points.
Darcy Roberts added 15 while Kamryn Turner knocked down 10.
The Lady Raiders played Sentinel in Friday’s semifinal round while Lomega’s boys were set to take on Shattuck.
Jim Walling Invitational Karlee Harviston is officially on fire.
The Dover junior scored at least 30 points in a game for the second straight time as she put Dover into the semifinals of the tournament in Earlsboro.
Harviston’s 30 points led Dover to a 60-37 victory against Olive.
She had 11 points at halftime, then added nine to that in the third quarter.
Harviston then nailed two treys and scored 10 in the fourth to put away Olive.
Katelyn Harviston was just as hot in the first half.
She scored 13 of her 19 points as Dover stake a 3414 advantage.
Rylee Buck was a part of the quick start as well. She hit two first-quarter 3-pointers and finished with eight.
The Lady Longhorns were set to play Class A No. 4 Vanoss in Friday’s semifinals.
Dover’s boys were sent to the consolation bracket with a 67-27 loss to Class B No. 5 Kinta.
The Longhorns played Wilson in the consolation semifinals on Friday.
