Lady Jackets down MSM 12-2 in softball home finale
Shrugging off a slow start, Kingfisher closed strong Monday to win its final district softball game of the season.
The Lady Jackets fell behind early, but came back to thump Mount St. Mary 12-2 in six innings on “senior night.”
KHS completed its District 3A-1 record with a 6-6 record. The team was 3-9 in district games a year ago.
Kingfisher will finish fifth in the district. Overall, KHS is 19-7 with two regular season games remaining.
Mount St. Mary got two runs thanks to two singles and two walks and a hit batter issued by Lily Voth.
But the freshman settled down. She scattered five more hits over the final five innings and didn’t hand out another free base.
The Lady Jackets threatened in the bottom of the first, but Voth was robbed by a diving catch for the third out.
KHS wasn’t denied from then on.
It scored four runs in the second, two off an Adlee Friesen single and another thanks to an RBI double from Kendall Farrar.
After Jancee Matthews’ sacrifice fly pushed home a run in the third, Shelby Davis’ single scored two more to make it a 7-2 Kingfisher lead.
Reese Roof bunted home Matthews in the fifth, then Friesen added to her night with another RBI single to score Roof.
Davis and Roof had run-scoring hits in the sixth inning to enforce the run rule.
KHS had 10 hits on the night. Friesen was 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
Davis was 2 for 3 and also drove in three runs while Roof had 2 RBIs.
Addison Wilson, the team’s lone senior, scored twice.
Kingfisher played at Guthrie on Tuesday (after press time), then wraps up its regular season next Tuesday at Prague.
