Despite three of the top four-ranked teams not taking part and with the temperatures inching toward triple digits, Kingfisher was still able to make a statement at the Pre-State Cross Country Meet.

The Lady Jackets took runner-up honors Saturday in the 4A girls race at Edmond Santa Fe High School, the same site of the state meet later this fall.

Kingfisher notched 77 points, second only to Byng’s 60 points.

The Lady Jackets entered the meet ranked 10th in the class.

Their showing bested fifth-ranked Plainview, which was third with 90 points, sixth-ranked Cleveland, fourth with 108, and seventh-ranked Bethany, which came in fifth with 161.

Byng was ranked third. Defending state champ and top-ranked Pauls Valley, No. 2 Lincoln Christian and No. 4 Metro Christian didn’t take part in the pre-state meet.

All five of Kingfisher’s scoring runners were medalists (the top 30 at this meet earn medals).

Scout Snodgrass led that pack as she was seventh overall, running the 3,200 meter course in 13:11.31. She was fifth among runners scoring points for their team.

She was followed by sophomore Lily Lunsford, who came in 16th (14th) in 13:55.77.

Right on her heels was classmate Mattie Slezickey, running in just her second meet of the season.

Slezickey finished 17th (15th) in 13:58.65.

Junior Harper Evans was just two spots behind Slezickey to finish in 14:03.15 while Terry Ann McCully came in 28th (26th) in 14:24.34 to round out Kingfisher’s scoring.

Long leads KHS boys

Wyatt Long led a trio of Kingfisher runners in the boys race.

Long placed 42nd out of 167 runners by finishing the 5K race in 20:07.67.

Hennessey Girls 4th in 2A A pair of Lady Eagles medaled as the Hennessey girls were fourth overall in the 2A girls meet.

Jocelyn Matousek was 14th (10th) and Emma Copeland 22nd (14th) out of 79 competitors.

Matousek crossed the finish line in 13:50.89 and Copeland in 14:40.03.

Top-ranked and defending champ Hooker dominated the meet with just 20 points.

Watonga was second with 56 and Riverside third with 107.

Hennessey notched 123 points.

Sims medals for HHS boys The HHS boys had one of their two runners medal and just missed on both of them earning one.

Seth Sims placed 22nd in 21:12.91 while Asher Ward was 33rd.

There were 70 competitors in the 2A boys race.

Dover’s Cohee medals Senior Nathan Cohee brought home a medal for Dover in the Class A boys meet.

Cohee placed 22nd out of 107 runners, completing the race in 20:53.51.
