Newkirk takes 2nd in boys race
Senior Jayden Newkirk took runner-up in the boys’ 5K race. He crossed the finish line
He crossed the finish line in 18:37.62 as the team was fourth overall.
“He works so hard and puts in extra miles on his own, which is what it takes since we’re not a year-round program,” Lafferty said.
Junior Connor Hine was 16th overall, but 14th in the team standings to give KHS two runners in the top-20.
Guthrie won the meet with 31 points. The Bluejays were followed by OKC Knights (70) and Weatherford (84).
KHS had 116 points.
The day also consisted of a pair of elementary races.
The six races overall consisted of more than 430 runners, including some from Lomega, Dover and Cashion (See results in this edition).
“It’s a huge day and we couldn’t do it without the help of the parents and the Chisholm Trail Technology Center,” Lafferty said. “We’re really fortunate here.”
