Crescent moves to 2-0 with shutout victory
Crescent coach J.L. Fisher had next to no information on his team’s Week 1 opponent.
North Rock Creek is a budding high school in Shawnee that consists solely of underclassmen and only recently began varsity football.
As it turned out, Fisher had little to worry about.
The Tigers improved to 2-0 as they dominated early and cruised in the second half in a 41-0 victory in their home opener.
Hunter Wilmoth accounted for nearly 200 yards and four touchdowns on offense while the defense surrendered just 85 total yards.
Including the Week 0 win at Hennessey, Crescent’s defense hasn’t given up a point through two games (Hennessey’s touchdown was a fumble recovery).
In fact, Crescent’s defense outscored the North Rock Creek offense.
Luke Descher tackled Makai Jones in the end zone in the first quarter for a safety that gave the Tigers a 9-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.
That defense play was sandwiched by a pair of Wilmoth TD runs.
The first was from 50 yards out on Crescent’s first play from scrimmage.
The second was a 54-yarder that gave the Tigers a 16-0 lead just 2:31 into the contest.
Crescent led 22-0 by the end of the quarter and 35-0 at halftime.
Wilmoth added a 44-yard TD pass to Cade Watkins late in the second quarter and a 20-yard scoring run in the fourth.
He had 150 yards on 10 carries and threw for another 48 yards.
Tayon Johnson also had a 13-yard TD run in the first quarter and covered 122 yards on his 13 attempts.
Crescent out-gained its guests by 315 yards and ran for 351 yards on 37 attempts, averaging 9.5 per carry.
C.J. Wilson added 60 yards on five carries and also scored.
Descher led the team with eight tackles, including four for a loss.
Crescent wraps up its non-district schedule Friday when hosts Apache at 7 p.m.
