KHS tops Enid in final regular season game
Although playoff destinations weren’t totally decided, the Kingfisher softball team still wasn’t done winning this week.
The Lady Jackets capped their regular season Monday with a 5-1 win at Enid.
The 6A Pacers weren’t originally on Kingfisher’s schedule, but Clinton was unable to play so the change was made.
The trip north saw Mya Dewberry drive in three runs and Olivia Wilcox grab another win in the circle.
The senior surrendered just four hits, one of which was a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
That pulled Enid within 3-1, but the Lady Jackets iced the game with two runs in the top of the seventh.
Mia Farrell doubled and Kaycee Karcher singled to get runners in scoring position.
Natalie Dick followed that up with a fly ball to send Farrell home. Dewberry later reached on an error to score Karcher.
Enid committed six miscues in the game as only two of Kingfisher’s runs were earned.
The Lady Jackets grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third when Dewberry’s single pushed home Farrell and Dick.
They also scored in the sixth on Jodie Hill’s RBI single that scored Taylor Mills.
Meanwhile Wilcox was surrendering little to the Pacers.
She struck out four batters total and retired eight straight batters at one point.
After surrendering the home run, Wilcox also gave up a walk and a single in the sixth, but worked her way out of it. She then sat down the Pacers in order in the seventh to clinch the win.
KHS was 24-13 after the win, which is the most wins in Danny Green’s five-year tenure as head coach.
The Lady Jackets don’t yet know their bi-district opponent as Perkins-Tryon and Blackwell - fellow District 4A-1 foes - had one game left to play after press time.
The Lady Jackets could finish as low as sixth in the district, but also could place as high as fourth and get to host a bi-district series depending on the outcome of that contest.
