KHS softball fourth at Highway 81 Classic
Kingfisher took fourth place over the weekend at the Highway 81 Classic softball tournament.
The Lady Jackets, taking a break from District 4A-1 games, finished the tournament with a 3-2 mark.
“I thought even in the games we didn’t win, we played well,” coach Danny Green said of his squad.
KHS started the tournament with an 11-1 victory over Okarche last Thursday, its second victory against the Lady Warriors this season.
That was followed on Friday by a 4-2 defeat to Morrison.
Morrison, ranked 10th in Class A, went on to win the tournament title.
Olivia Wilcox drove in Kaycee Karcher in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 2-2, but Morrison answered back with two runs in the fourth and KHS couldn’t answer.
Karcher also had an RBI in the first inning.
Kingfisher got the tying run on base in the sixth inning, but failed to score any more runs.
The Lady Jackets bounced back later Friday to knock off Alva, 11-3.
KHS scored in all five trips to the plate and collected 12 hits.
Mia Farrell was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Wilcox and Macy Mc-Cully were each 2 for 4 and drove in two runs. Loren Ballard also had a pair of two RBIs.
Natalie Dick pitched four innings for the win. She gave up seven hits and three runs, none of which was earned.
The Lady Jackets played twice more on Saturday.
They knocked off Pioner, ranked 15th in Class A, 10-7.
In the third-place game, Newkirk defeated KHS 4-1.
Dick had three of Kingfisher’s 13 hits against Pioneer. Farrell had two.
Mya Dewberry, Karcher and Katey Brickman scored two runs apiece.
Wilcox earned the win with six innings of work. She gave up just two earned runs and struck out five batters.
Wilcox also drove in a pair of runs as did senior catcher Macy McCully.
The Lady Jackets returned to the diamond Monday where they were defeated 10-6 at home by Newcastle in a district game.
The loss dropped KHS to 2-8 in district game while Newcastle improved to 8-0.
The Lady Racers lead the district standings while KHS sits in seventh.
