A long scoring drought nearly cost Kingfisher its sizable lead.

But the Lady Jackets made the plays down the stretch to snap their twogame losing skid.

Afterwatchinga23-point lead get knocked all the way down to seven, KHS pulled away from Cache late in Friday’s 46-33 road win.

Cache chipped away at Kingfisher’s 35-12 halftime advantage and pulled within 38-31 with 7:10 to play.

KHS only scored three points in the third quarter and didn’t score for almost five minutes to start the fourth.

Fortunately for the Lady Jackets, Cache also went on a scoring drought once pulling within seven points.

Freshman Mattie Slezickey broke the drought with a steal and layup while being fouled with 3:06 left in the game.

Slezickey didn’t complete the three-point play, but the ball went out of bounds off Cache.

Abbie Myers scored on the inbounds play to give KHS four points on that trip down the floor.

The sophomore added free throws moments later to extend Kingfisher’s lead to 13.

Cache didn’t threaten again.

Early on, it appeared it wouldn’t be a contest at all.

Kingfisher was up 12-0 midway through the first and scored the game’s first 19 points.

Cache’s first points were free throws with nine seconds left in the first quarter.

Addy Matthews then sank a trey at the buzzer to give the Lady Jackets a 21-2 lead.

Kingfisher was 9 of 17 from the field in the first quarter, but made just nine more field goals the rest of the game.

That included going 1 of 18 from 3-point range over the final three quarters.

That allowed Cache to creep back into it.

After going without a field goal in the first, the Lady Bulldogs were 9 of 20 over the next two quarters.

They were led by Alyanna Mason’s 13 points while Aaliyah Young scored 11 and had 13 rebounds.

Matthews finished with 22 for KHS.

Myers, meanwhile, was big in the paint for the Lady Jackets.

On top of scoring 12 points, she also had 13 rebounds, including six on the offensive end.

Myers also had seven deflections as Kingfisher’s defense forced 16 turnovers.

The Lady Jackets evened their record at 2-2. They’ll return to the court Dec. 28 when they play McAlester in the opening round of the Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic.
