KHS, Cashion wrap up Day 1 of state golf
Kingfisher is in prime position to collect some hardware from the Class 3A boys state golf tournament.
The Yellowjackets sat in second place after 36 holes Monday at Lakeview Golf Club in Ardmore.
KHS had rounds of 309 and 328 for a 637.
That put the Jackets well back of leader Plainview’s 592 (297-295).
However, KHS was still 15 strokes ahead of third-place Pauls Valley and 22 strokes ahead of Lone Grove, which sat in fourth.
The Jackets were just 12 strokes behind Plainview after the first round.
Kingfisher got an evenpar 71 out of Tristun Burnham.
He was followed by Blake Hill’s 77, a 78 from Cash Slezickey, an 83 from Jax Sternberger and Myles Harrison’s 86.
The second 18 of the day saw Burnham turn in a 78 for a 149 total. He was tied sixth with two other golfers.
Hill carded a 79 on his second round and sat at 156.
Slezickey’s 85 gave him a 163.
Sternberger and Harrison both finished up at 172.
Harrison duplicated his 86 while Sternberger finished with an 89. Plainview’s Jace Chaney led the individual race with a 142. He had rounds of 69 and 73.
Carter Nutt of Christian Heritage had the low round of the day with a 64 after starting out with a 79. He’s one back of Chaney.
The teams played their final 18 holes on Tuesday, but results weren’t available by press time.
‘Cats sit in 7th after 36
Cashion sat in seventh place Monday after the first 36 holes of the Class 2A boys state golf tournament.
The Wildcats fired off rounds of 323 and 329 at Lake Hefner Golf Club in Oklahoma City.
Community Christian led the way with a tworound total of 586, which put it 16 strokes ahead of Latta’s 602. Tishomingo was a distant third at 631.
Max Brown was leading the way for Cashion with his rounds of 73 and 79 for a 152 total.
Camden Maroney was four strokes behind his teammate after his rounds of 79 and 77.
Holten Aaron followed up his opening 79 with an 83 for a 162 total.
Ashton Moore had rounds of 92 and 90 (182) and Kam Miller shot 103 and 96 (199).
The rounds of the day came from Callin Bond of Community Christian.
Bond shot a 67 to open the day, then followed up with a 9-under-par 63.
His 130 leads the tournament by six strokes over Carter Ray of Walters.
