Jacket run ends at 4A regional
Kingfisher got the tying and winning batters on base, but couldn’t quite muster the runs needed to extend its baseball season.
The Jackets were eliminated Friday from their Class 4A regional in Tuttle with back-to-back losses.
They opened the regional with a 10-0 loss to Marlow, then saw their season end that night with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Harrah.
KHS trailed the Panthers 3-0 after four innings, but scratched across a run in each the fifth and sixth innings.
Then, with two outs in the seventh, Eli Johnson and Tanner Parker were able to draw walks, putting the tying run in scoring position.
Harrah was then able to coax a fly ball out of freshman Bryce Cockayne to seal the win.
Both teams had just four hits in the game.
All of Harrah’s came in the fourth inning.
The Panthers collected three singles and a double to go with a walk and scored all their runs in that lone frame.
Outside of that, they were unable to touch Dallen Barton, who retired the side in order in three of his six innings pitched.
He struck out seven and walked three.
After Harrah got its runs in the fourth, Kingfisher was able to load the bases with one out in the top of the fifth.
Johnson’s grounder scored Casen Chlouber, but the Panthers were able to get the force out at second, then throw out Damien Haynes trying to score from second to end the threat.
Kingfisher got the first two runners on in the sixth. A sacrifice bunt combined with a Harrah error allowed Parker to score, but KHS couldn’t further capitalize in the frame.
Isaiah Medellin, Johnson, Parker and Chlouber had Kingfisher’s hits.
The Jackets were able to draw five walks, but also struck out 11 times.
The team had just two hits in the shutout loss to Marlow.
Those came from Jett Braun and Chlouber.
Johnson went the distance for the Jackets, but only two runs were earned as KHS committed seven errors.
Tuttle went on to win the regional and advance to the 4A state tournament.
The top-seeded Tigers opened with a 2-0 win against Harrah, then beat Marlow 7-1 and 8-0 to claim the championship.
Kingfisher’s season ends with a 14-25 mark.
