KHS 2nd in 3A golf qualifier
Only four golfers failed to move on from Monday’s Class 3A regional qualifier held at Kingfisher Golf Course.
Fortunately, nobody with the name “Kingfisher” attached to it was among that group.
KHS moved on to next week’s regional in Purcell with a 298, which placed it second out of seven full teams.
Six teams from each qualifier advance to one of two regional tournaments. Oklahoma Christian School won the tournament with a 285.
Lindsay (326), Purcell
(330), Perkins-Tryon (356) and Chisholm (357) also advanced.
Perry was the only full team on hand that didn’t qualify, but all four of its golfers did move on as individuals as the top-six scores from non-qualifying teams also advance.
As for Kingfisher, Peyton Burns led the way with an even-par 70.
Caleb Cameron shot a 71, Colby Campbell a 76 and Cade Hill an 81.
Logun Burnham’s 82 didn’t count toward the team score as only the top-four scores are used.
Jaxon Dowell of OCS led all scorers with a 67.
The University of Oklahoma signee started on the back-nine and birdied his first three holes before playing the final 15 at even-par.
The Saints also got a 68 out of their four-bag, Wesley Sachs. Other scores counting for OCS were a 73 and a 77.
The regional will consist of 36 holes in one day.
The top-six teams (and ties) at each of two 3A regionals will advance to the following week’s state tournament at Tulsa Country Club.
