Cashion wins baseball district
Cashion surrendered just one run in three games last week to lay claim to a district baseball championship.
The ninth-ranked Wildcats swept through Ring-wood and then Union City twice at home to cruise to the Class A district crown and advance to this week’s regional.
Cashion travels to Canute this week to play for the right to advance to next week’s state tournament. The regional begins Thursday at Canute.
Cashion is set to play Elmore City-Pernell at 1 p.m. in the first round (days and times subject to change upon teams’ agreement). Eighth-ranked Canute and Allen play at 3 p.m.
It is a double-elimination bracket.
Josh Harrel and Logan LaGasse combined to strike out 15 batters while allowing just two hits in the decisive win last Friday over Union City.
Harrel threw the first two innings and sat down five. LaGasse finished the game and collected 10 strikeouts.
Harrel helped his own cause with an RBI single in the first inning and the Wildcats got what proved to be the winning run in the second inning on Alex Nabavi’s RBI fielder’s choice.
The Wildcats got easy shutouts Thursday in their first two wins.
The first was a 22-0 blowout of Ringwood in just three innings in which T.J. Roberts earned the win.
Jacob Woody led the offense with four RBIs in a 3 for 4 showing. He also scored twice.
Cashion followed it up with an 8-0 win over Union City in a winner’s bracket game.
Woody pitched a complete game in the six-inning run rule. He surrendered only one hit and struck out eight.
Cashion scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to end it.
Harrel made it 7-0 when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded then Woody got the walkoff hit, an RBI single.
Harrel and Woody drove in two runs apiece while Sam Brown and LaGasse scored two runs apiece.
Cashion currently sports a 23-7 record.

Okarche’s season ended in its Class A district tournament Friday with a 7-5 defeat to Southwest Covenant.
The Warriors opened the district with a 13-3 loss to Southwest Covenant before coming back to defeat Hydro-Eakly 17-8 in an elimination game the day before.
Okarche finished at 11-10 on the season.

Dover season’s also ended in district as it was dealt matching 12-0 losses by No. 2 Drummond. Dover was 0-18 this spring.
