A trio of one-goal matches saw the Kingfisher High School boys finish fourth over the weekend at the Weatherford Eagles Classic soccer tournament. Eduardo De La Torre scored the game winner Friday afternoon in Kingfisher’s 3-2 victory over Purcell in the quarterfinals. Santiago Ortega and Abel Guzman notched the team’s other two goals. That evening, Kingfisher dropped a 2-1 decision to Weatherford, which went on to win the championship. The Eagles scored first, but Jake Sisk evened it up in the first half with a goal as he was falling to his back. The score was assisted by De La Torre. Weatherford got the game winner with about 15 minutes to play in the game. Elijah Click had seven saves for the Jackets and 12 for the tournament overall. Elk City also got a 2-1 victory over KHS with both of the Elks’ goals coming via penalty kicks. Kingfisher found its goal in the first half when Santiago Ortega (pictured to the right) headed in a free kick from Jairo Velarde. The Jackets appeared to have tied it up 2-2 late in the game, but a goal was disallowed after a whistle blew a play dead with a foul in the box. The Jackets then missed the penalty kick and Elk City eventually ran out the clock. Kingfisher traveled to Mount St. Mary on Tuesday for a district match. It’s contest at home this Friday was canceled by Harding Fine Arts. [KT&FP Staff Photo]
