HHS claims academic state title
Lady Eagles run 10th at state
For the second straight year, the Hennessey girls left the state cross country meet with some hardware.
The Lady Eagles repeated as Class 3A academic state champions as they posted a cumulative 4.0 GPA.
Hennessey team members were presented the trophy during the awards ceremony Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
“These girls are very hard workers on the cross country course and in the classroom,” said coach Cheyenne Baxter.
The ceremony came after Hennessey finished 10th in the 3A standings.
Metro Christian won the state title with just 70 points.
Mount St. Mary was second with 103 and Casady third with 123.
HHS totaled 303 points, but Baxter was anything but disappointed.
“As a team, we had our best race of the year,” she said.
Emma Sipe paced the Lady Eagles as she finished the two-mile course in 13:21.91. She was 34th overall and 30th among runners who scored points for a team.
Jocelyn Matousek was 56th (47th) and Tayler Franklin 62nd (53rd).
Senior Taryn Jech ran 73rd (60th) and her time of 14:10.00 was her fastest of the season by nearly a minute.
She finished among the top-15 seniors in the race, which will earn her Oklahoma Cross Country and Track Coaches Association all-star status.
Marisol Valles was 136th (113th) to round out Hennessey’s scoring.
