Crossings too much for Crescent

Crescent had more plays than Crossings Christian School last Friday night.

The Knights just made their snaps count more.

Owen Crotts threw four touchdown passes as CCS toppled the Tigers 41-14 in Crescent.

The loss was the third in a row for the Tigers, who dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in District A-3.

Half of Crotts’ touchdown passes came in the first half as the Knights built a 21-0 lead.

He had a 5-yard pass to Hunter Johnson midway through the first quarter and the two connected again from 23 yards out with just over a minute gone in the second.

The two got together for the third time in the fourth quarter on a 51-yard play.

Johnson caught seven passes overall and totaled 123 yards.

Crotts, who also had a 51-yard TD pass to Mason Snyder in the third quarter, was 9 of 15 for 184 yards and no turnovers.

The Knights scored on a fumble recovery in the second quarter and led 28-0 in the third before Crescent could answer.

Hunter Wilmoth ran in a 33-yard touchdown at 5:18 of the third quarter to help pull the Tigers within 28-7.

But CCS needed less than two minutes to counter the TD.

Wilmoth scored his second TD of the game with 10:46 remaining on a 40-yard run.

Wilmoth ran for 92 yards on 13 carries.

Overall, the Tigers covered 170 yards on 43 rushing attempts, an average of 4.0 per carry. They also held CCS to 91 yards on 24 carries.

Crescent ran 54 snaps to 39 for CCS, but were out-gained 275-210. The Tigers even had five more minutes of possession.

Cade Watkins was 3 of 7 passing for 38 yards. Four different Tigers caught one pass each.

Jayce Pheland and Nick Laxton had five tackles apiece to lead Crescent.

The Tigers are off this week. They return to the field Thursday, Oct. 17, when they host Minco.
