Crescent girls stun Hennessey to grab first victory of season
Crescent pulled off a bit of an upset Tuesday to grab its first win of the season.
The Lady Tigers used strong second and third quarters to defeat Hennessey 52-49 at the Eagle Event Center.
Crescent entered the game with an 0-5 record while Hennessey was 6-1.
However, the visitors were able to erase a fivepoint deficit to tie the game by halftime, then took a sixpoint lead into the fourth quarter.
Once there, Crescent built its lead to as many as eight on multiple occasions. Zori Wilson’s bucket with 4:28 to play pushed the score to 47-39.
Hennessey retaliated with a 5-0 run over the next 1:30 as Yuridia Rios made a pair of free throws, but the Lady Eagles couldn’t trim the deficit any further.
The loss came despite a 21-point effort from Katie Kennedy.
She scored 12 points in the first quarter as Hennessey staked a 19-14 lead. She was limited to six points in the second half.

Eagles too much for Tigers Crescent never could quite solve Hennessey’s zone defense or slow down James Sims late in the game.
The Eagles returned from the holiday break Tuesday to earn a 50-31 win over Crescent at the Eagle Event Center.
The visitors managed just 11 points in the first quarter and were held to eight field goals in the game.
Still, they were within striking distance entering the fourth quarter.
