Crescent finally gets a game in 3rd round...we think
Crescent has moved into the third round of the Class A football playoffs, yet hasn’t played a game since Week 10.
That’s 2020.
The Tigers received their second straight forfeit win last week when Wayne bowed out of the playoffs due to COVID-19 concerns.
That’s the same scenario Crescent faced in the first round when it was supposed to play Rush Springs.
Now Crescent (8-2) is set to host Mooreland (6-5) at 7 p.m. Friday for the right to move into the quarterfinals.
“They’re a pretty good team,” said Crescent coach J.L. Fisher. “I don’t see them getting out.”
Mooreland downed Minco 34-15 on the road last week. It beat Mangum 38-13 the week before.
Its only losses are to teams still in the playoffs: Pawnee, Woodland, Thomas, Texhoma and Hooker.
Crescent can boast the same.
It lost 21-20 to Tonkawa in early October and 55-7 to Cashion in Week 10. Both of those teams are also in the third round this week.
However, the Tigers haven’t taken the field since that setback to their War on 74 rivals.
“It’s extremely tough,” Fisher said of having weeks of practice without the reward of a game at the end. “This will be the first time we’ve played in three weeks so we’ll see how that goes.
“Our young guys will definitely have their hands full.”
