Crescent downs Morrison 18- 7 to remain undefeated
Only one area football team is undefeated heading into district play.
It’s the Crescent Tigers. Perennial power Morrison was their latest victim as Crescent prevailed in an 18-7 slugfest for homecoming last Friday night.
Tanner Rice scored all three touchdowns for the Tigers, two of them in the second quarter as they staked a 12-0 lead.
After the guests pulled within 12-7 with 4:17 to play, Rice did it again.
The versatile junior scored on a 10-yard run with 1:52 to play to put the Wildcats away.
Rice ran 17 times for 86 yards while Luke Descher pounded Morrison 11 times for 59 more yards.
All told, Crescent tallied 167 yards on the ground.
Rice added another 48 passing yards while Kade Varner was 4 of 7 for 65 yards.
C.J. Wilson and Isaiah Lovett caught two passes each for a combined 110 yards.
Morrison has built its storied reputation with a massive ground attack of its own.
However, the Wildcats went to the air 35 times against Crescent.
Passes were completed just 10 times for 136 yards.
Crescent’s defense limited the visitors to 94 rushing yards.
Stone Fisher had eight tackles while Tylan Neugent totaled seven.
In three games this season, Crescent has allowed a total of 15 points.
The Tigers get this week off before opening their District A-3 slate Sept. 23 at home against Watonga.
