Cashion, Crescent advance out of 2A boys golf qualifier
Tigers’ Stevens top individual with 73
Cashion and Crescent have advanced to the second stage of the Class 2A golf playoffs.
The two were among seven teams Monday to advance to a regional tournament during a qualifier held at Kingfisher Golf Course.
Cashion shot 345 as a team and Crescent 355 to place second and third, respectively.
The top-six teams and ties move on from the qualifier to next week’s regional at Turkey Creek Golf Course in Hennessey.
Perry was the top team at 333.
Other qualifiers were Mooreland (388), Turpin (388), Erick (404) and Oklahoma Bible Academy (404).
The top-six individuals from non-qualifying teams also move on.
Among them was Hennessey’s Christian Tovar, who shot an 86.
Although individual prizes aren’t awarded, Crescent’s Dominic Stevens shot the best round of the day with his 3-over-par 73.
He was the only golfer to shoot in the 70s on the warm, windy day.
Perry’s Ty Hyatt was his closest competitor with his 80.
Cashion was led by Pat rick Sexton’s 83.
Jake Wilkerson finished at 86 while Max Brown and Holten Aaron each shot 88s. Camden Maroney shot a 90.
Crescent got an 89 from Jackson Watkins and a 96 from Cade Watkins.
Carter Johnson finished with a 97 and Ethan Ryans a 111.
The 36-hole regional will be Monday, May 3.
The top-six teams and top-six individuals (and ties) will advance from the regional tournament to state.
State is May 10-11 at Earlywine Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
