Burnham tabbed All-Stater in golf
Tristun Burnham may be graduating, but still has more golf to play as a Kingfi sher Yellowjacket.
Burnham on Thursday was named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State team.
He’ll represent the West, which includes all classes, when it takes on the East All-State members during the annual OCA All-State Games in July.
Burnham is the 15th KHS golfer to earn the honor.
“He’s been the model of consistency for us,” said coach Chris Combs of the four-year starter.
“We’ve had a lot of great golfers here over the years and based on performance and consistency, I feel he’s on the short list.”
Burnham had five career individual wins and two more runner-up finishes while leading the Jackets to numerous team titles.
He’s a two-time Western Athletic Conference individual champ and also won top honors at this year’s Class 3A regional qualifier.
On top of his first- or second-place finishes, Burnham has eight other top-five placings during his career.
He was top-10 at state each of the last two years, including sixth place this season when he guided KHS to a Class 3A state runner-up finish in the team standings.
He had a 74.2 stroke average this season and has signed to continue his career at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
On top of All-State, Burnham, a class valedictorian, will also play in the Classic Bowl in Woodward next month.
