Anadarko thumps KHS 54-14
Plainview it is.
The playoff matchup scenarios for Kingfisher were numerous heading into Week 10, but began to materialize late Friday night.
The Jackets’ fate in District 3A-1 proved to be fourth place after they were manhandled 54-14 on Senior Night.
In District 3A-2, Sulphur held on to beat Lone Grove 44-41 and Plainview dealt Pauls Valley a 41-21 defeat.
That put Plainview as that district’s champ, meaning it will host Kingfisher in the first round of the playoffs this Friday.
“It’s a tall order,” KHS coach Jeff Myers said. “They’re one of those programs that’s always got a good team, always a threat to make a deep run in the playoffs.
“This year is no exception. We’ll have to go down there and play really well to give ourselves a chance…a lot better than we played last week.”
With the exception of an early 77-yard touchdown run by senior Alan Muñoz, the Jackets never were in contention during their final regular season game.
The Muñoz TD run came at 9:10 of the first quarter and his extra-point kick pulled the Jackets within 8-7.
But the Jackets’ offense sputtered much of the rest of the first half while Anadarko’s only built on its early momentum.
The Warriors opened with a 59-yard scoring drive that saw Karson Williams hit Terrance Johnson for a 24-yard score.
It was the first of five TD passes for Williams, three of which went to Johnson.
After Kingfisher answered with its TD, Anadarko scored 30 straight points to go up 38-7 just midway through the second quarter.
That came on Lucas Camp’s 11-yard touchdown run, which followed a pair of TD passes from Williams to Layton Cyrus as well as a TD run by Williams.
The Jackets were able to grab a dose of momentum before halftime with a 59- yard touchdown drive.
Jax Sternberger, playing his first game since Oct. 1, found Slade Snodgrass for a 10-yard touchdown with 17 seconds left in the half.
However, the momentum wasn’t sustained.
Anadarko posted two more scores in the third quarter, then had possession of the entirety of the fourth with the exception of the game’s final snap.
The Warriors tallied 500 total yards.
Williams threw for 269.
Camp ran for 165 yards and two scores on 24 touches.
Muñoz ran for 140 total yards on 10 carries for the Jackets.
However, his night ended in the second half with an ankle injury. The sprain is likely to keep him out this week.
Sternberger was 8 of 17 for 48 yards. He had one touchdown and one interception.
Snodgrass caught five of those passes for 41 yards.
He also led the team with 12 tackles.
Muñoz added eight, as did Jake Reagan. Wrigley Kennedy and Isaac Long had seven tackles apiece.
Kingfisher finished the regular season 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the district.
Plainview is 7-3 overall and was 6-1 in its district.
The Indians lost 49-21 to Heritage Hall in the second round of last year’s playoffs and were state runners-up to Lincoln Christian in 2019.
Kingfisher and Plainview last played in the 2007 Class 3A state semifinals.
The Jackets beat the previously-undefeated Indians 30-7 in Choctaw.
