Dallas Sargent

Dallas Glen Sargent of Kingfisher went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 22, 2022.

He was born in Phillips, Texas, on July 8, 1939, to La-Gusta “Gus” Sargent and Lola Mae Mcbee Sargent.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven of his siblings.

Those remaining are Leroy Sargent of Fritch Texas; Drucella “Sally” Hamrick of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a niece who he loved like a sister, Gina Cowe and husband Randy of Montgomery Texas.

Survivors include daughter Rhonda Harris and husband Dave of Southport England, son Stephen Sargent of Kingfisher, and daughter Stephanie Sargent Williams and husband Eric of Edmond; six grandchildren, Jasmine Wooton, Dominick Huber, Jeffery Sargent, Joshua Sargent, Amethyst Carter and Alisha Carter; six great-grandchildren and countless nephews and nieces.

Dallas joined the Navy in 1960 and was stationed in San Diego, Calif.

While he was there, he met Ruth Ann Ellison and married her on May 11, 1963.

Following the birth of their first child, Rhonda, Dallas left the Navy in 1964 and moved his family back to Pampa, Texas, where they had twins Stephen and Stephanie on their second anniversary.

Dallas began his career at Phillips Petroleum as a welder where he later had to make the difficult decision to relocate his family to Oklahoma to continue his career as a pipeline inspector for Phillips until he retired in 2001.

His hobbies included playing, coaching and umpiring slow-pitch softball. He was an avid golfer and was very active in his church.

He truly enjoyed sharing his testimony about God’s hand on his life and always ended it singing his favorite song “I’ve Never Been this Homesick Before.”

Dallas made his home a safe haven with a feeling of protection for many over the years, never turning anyone away.

In 1980, Michelle Sargent Mowdy and Tonya Sargent-Quintana joined the family and were raised as his own daughters.

Later, he willingly took Jeffery and Joshua into his home while his son was deployed.

His home was open to many, too numerous to count.

Big “D” or Uncle Dallas, as so many called him, will be dearly missed by many friends and family.

Dallas will be laid to rest at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at Frontline Ministries in Kingfisher with graveside services following at Kingfisher Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
