Altar Society meets, elects officers for next session
The Sts. Peter & Paul Altar Society met in the Annex on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
The group received instruction in the Archdiocesan Safe Environment Training and watched a video as required for all individuals who volunteer or minister to children in the Archdiocese.
The meeting was called to order by Irene Garrett, president. Barbara Rice, vice president, led the opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.
The group discussed its recent activities which provided January birthday parties at Countrywood Assisted Living Center, Cimarron Nursing Home and First Shamrock Care Center. The residents with January birthdays were treated with a gift while all residents were served cake and ice cream.
The monthly activity at Cimarron Nursing Home has been rescheduled to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13. Members will also visit the homebound and deliver Valentine’s cards.
Recent changes in abortion laws were discussed with the group suggesting ways to take positive action to assist women in crisis pregnancies.
After discussion, it was decided to collect new infant clothing and supplies like diapers and wipes. These items will be donated to agencies that assist with pro-life activities.
Thegroupalsoapproved a monetary donation to be added to the items donated. The drive will extend through March and be promoted in the parish and citywide. Ann Finley will chair this effort.
The nominating committee of Finley, Carol Morkes and Cynthia Eaton reported that a new slate of officers for 2019-21 session has been completed. Brenda Walta will assume presidency with Carolyn Schulte as vice president.
Paige Kraus will be treasurer and Cindy Wilczek as secretary. These officers begin their terms in May.
The women recited Prayer for Our Priests at the close of the meeting. The group will meet again at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, in the Annex and then attend Ash Wednesday Mass at 7 p.m.
The hostesses for the next meeting will be Gail Hill and Judy Grellner.
