Choosing the President of the United States is not as simple as voters going to the polls and holding an inauguration. In fact, it is a series of events that take place over several months. These include party primaries, conventions, and the general election. Each state and its parties have their own way of conducting these activities. Because the rules are different across the country, it is better described as a process than as a system. Oklahoma’s 2024 process looks like this.

Until now the two groups marched in each others parades, attended each others rallies and shared mailing lists. If you were an Earth Firster no doubt you had a PETA membership card in your purse or wallet. The two factions were joined at the hip and incessantly lawyered up and voted in lockstep, much to the chagrin of aggies everywhere. But recently the two have been seen cheating on each other and their uncoupling is getting nasty, much to the delight of farmers and ranchers. We’re absolutely elated to divulge that this is not a trial separation either but a permanent splitage of the sheets.

Kingfisher High School’s varsity and treble choirs took part March 28 in the 2024 OSSAA state competition at Carl Albert High School. To qualify for state, choirs must earn a “superior” - the highest rating - at the district competition. Kingfisher’s “Varsity Voices” performed a 6A piece, “Festival Sanctus” by John Leavitt in Latin and then “Je Le Vous Dirai” by Pierre Certon in French. The choir earned an “excellent” on those two pieces. The choir then went to the sight singing portion of the contest and earned a “superior.” They have received a state plaque for earning a “superior” in sight singing. The treble choir performed “Sonatemi un Balletto,” an Italian piece by Giovanni Gastoldi and “Grow Little Tree” by American composer Andrea Ramsey. They earned a “superior” on those two pieces and then moved to sight singing where they also earned a “superior,” earning the choir a plaque for each event. “I am very proud of both choirs. They are singing pieces above where they have previously sung and the varsity choir is singing above its 4Aclassification,” said Kingfisher choral director Diann Magnus. “This year was the first year to split the choirs for competition and they have more than proved they were ready for this move. I am excited to see what we accomplish next year.” The top photo includes members of Varsity Voices.
