Perry solves Eagle zone in Frontier Shootout final
Dylan Hight dominated the first half.
It was Bryson Cash’s turn in the second.
Combined, it was enough to lift Perry past Hennessey 59-40 Saturday in the boys championship of the Frontier Shootout.
Hight scored all 16 of his points in the first half, including nine in the second quarter as the Maroons went on a 19-6 run.
That allowed them to build a 14-point halftime lead.
“We had a good first quarter, but they were able to pick us apart after that,” said Hennessey coach Brady Page after his team dropped to 3-2 on the season.
Cash contributed to that in the second half when he scored 15 of his 17 points.
The Eagles countered with Cristian Rodriguez and Jael Torres.
Rodriguez scored 10 during that first quarter and ended his night with a game-high 19.
Torres scored 10 in the third quarter and 12 for the game.
However, the rest of the Eagles combined to score just nine points.
Hennessey got to the title game with Friday’s 48- 24 win over Frontier.
Torres scored 15 and Rodriguez 11 in that win.
Hennessey opened the tournament with a 67-25 victory over Marlow JV.
Lady Eagles grab 1st win at tournament
Hennessey got its first win of the season at last weekend’s Frontier Shootout, but the Lady Eagles eventually had to settle for sixth place.
Modesti McConnell scored 43 points Saturday to lift Casady past Hennessey, 60-54, in the consolation championship.
Hennessey earned its spot in that game with Friday’s 38-33 win over Blackwell.
Kassidy Amburn scored 16 points in the win, including going 4 of 6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
Amburn scored at least four points in every quarter.
Noelle Pollard added eight points while Harlee Dowell and Kadee Meeker scored six apiece.
Amburn stepped up big again Saturday with 20 points while Yuridia Rios added 12 and Julianna Macy nine.
However, McConnell was too much.
She scored 15 points in the first quarter as the Lady Cyclones got out to a 19-6 advantage.
Hennessey cut that deficit to four points entering the fourth quarter, but McConnell scored her final 12 points to help hold off the Lady Eagles.
McConnell, who has committed to play collegiately at Georgetown, made nine 3-pointers in the game.
