KHS BASEBALL

Kingfisher let a nine-run lead slip away and saw its 14-game win streak go with it.

Edmond Memorial erased deficits of 10-1 and then 11-7 by scoring the game’s eight final runs to beat KHS 15-11 at Homier Field.

The loss was just Kingfisher’s second of the season and its first since March 22 when Westmoore, another 6A team, beat the Jackets 5-4 in Edmond.

Logan Rutledge started a five-run third inning with a three-run home run. The senior catcher had already delivered a two-run single in the first inning and his homer pushed KHS to an 8-1 advantage.

A run-scoring triple by Cole Crosswhite and RBI single by Ian Daugherty made it 10-1.

The Bulldogs marched back with six runs in the fourth with five hits, a walk and a KHS error.

Cade Stephenson got a run back for the Jackets in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single for an 11-7 lead.

But the scoring stopped there for KHS.

Meanwhile, Edmond Memorial got two runs in each the fifth and sixth innings to tie it up and then delivered four runs in the top of the seventh off of three walks, two hits and another KHS error.

The Jackets had a season-high five errors in the game.

Brady Friesen pitched the first 3 1/3 innings, gave up six hits, seven runs and had one strikeout. Four runs were earned.

Chase Gustafson surrendered five runs over the next 2 2/3 innings, though only one was earned. He struck out four and gave up three hits.

Cooper Covalt threw the final inning in which he gave up three hits and three runs. One run was earned.

All three pitchers walked two batters apiece.

Rutledge finished 2 for 4 with five RBIs.

Clayton Abercrombie drove in two runs, scored twice and had two hits.

Will Taylor was 1 for 2 and scored three times while Crosswhite had a hit and scored twice.

Creighton Bugg got the win Tuesday as the Jackets thumped the OKC Broncos 9-1 in six innings at home.

Theseniorright-hander threw all six innings, scattered six hits and struck out five.

Four different Jackets - Crosswhite, Daugherty, Abercrombie and Tate Taylor - drove in two runs apiece.

Zach Goodwin scored three times.

Daugherty ended the game with an RBI double to score Goodwin - who earlier had doubled - to enforce the run rule.

KHS entered the weekend with a 23-2 record.
