Good Enough
Cashion gets by OCA, 39-28
Uninspired, but good enough to win.
That’s how Lynn Shackelford summed up Cashion’s 39-28 victory over Oklahoma Christian Academy last Friday in Edmond.
The Wildcats traded first-quarter touchdowns with OCA before going on a 26-7 run in the second and third quarters to pull away.
The loss was OCA’s first of the season.
“They’re a better team than they have been,” Shackelford said. “That said, we didn’t play hard. Our effort in the first half was as bad as it’s been around here in a long time.
“We just had a few better players.”
Among them were Nick Nabavi, Ben Harman and Landon LaGasse.
The latest in Cashion’s long line of explosive quarterback-wide receiver combos connected nine times for 188 yards and three touchdowns.
Two came in the decisive burst by Cashion as
LaGasse had touchdown catches of 51 and 29 yards.
Nabavi offered the other two scores on the ground as they covered 30 and 11 yards, respectively.
The latter allowed Cashion to turn what was a 14-13 deficit into a 39-21 advantage. “I thought we played just
“I thought we played just well enough to win,” Shackelford said.
LaGasse had a 44-yard touchdown to open scoring in the first quarter.
The Eagles answered with an 11-yard touchdown run by Antone Prince.
After Harman scored on a 1-yard run later in the first quarter, the Eagles again were able to combat it.
Brody Galyean had a 1-yard TD run and the ensuing extra point made it 14-13 in the Eagles’ favor.
Overall, OCA did have success on offense as it netted 344 total yards.
However, it never truly stopped Cashion.
Harman threw for 304 yards on 19 of 26 passing.
The Wildcats added another 222 on the ground to total 526 total yards.
Nabavi had 223 of those yards on 26 attempts, an average of 8.6 per carry.
Mason Manning had six receptions for 69 yards and added a team-high 13 tackles.
Camden Maroney added 10 stops.
Cashion’s win was its fifth straight.
The Wildcats (5-1, 2-0) will host Hinton this Friday night.
