Softball squad fifth at Highway 81 Classic
A 3-2 run at the Highway 81 Classic last weekend allowed the Kingfisher softball team to take fifth in the tournament.
KHS capped its run Saturday with an 8-6 win over Blackwell in the fifth-place game.
The Lady Jackets were part of a three-way tie for second place in their pool after going 2-2 in those games.
The tie-breaker saw KHS take third in the pool and put it in the fifth-place game.
Kingfisher scored all of its runs in the first two innings against the Maroons, then held off a late rally.
Addyson Willson provided an offensive spark in both frames.
She had two-RBI singles in each inning.
Emma Lukasek had an RBI single in the first and Kynli Boeckman a run-scoring hit in the second.
KHS scored four times in each inning.
Natalie Dick, Mya Dewberry and Boeckman scored in each inning. Blackwell scored four
Blackwell scored four runs through the first two innings, but Dick shut down her opponent until the seventh.
The Maroons scored a pair of runs off three Kingfisher errors and a double, but Dick retired the final two batters for the win.
None of the six runs she gave up was earned as KHS committed eight errors overall.
Dick surrendered six hits without a walk and struck out one.
She joined Willson, Boeckman and Lukasek in collecting two hits at the plate.
The team started the tournament Thursday with a 15-0 win over Oklahoma Christian Academy in a three-inning run rule.
Kingfisher scored all of its runs in the first two innings and had 13 hits overall.
Dick, Dewberry, Merrin Evans, Boeckman and Gentry Taylor had two hits apiece.
Dick drove in three runs and scored three times while also picking up the win in the circle.
She struck out seven batters while surrendering just one hit.
Willson scored three times and had two RBIs. Dewberry, Evans, Boeckman and Taylor had two RBIs each.
The team had eight hits, but couldn’t capitalize often enough in a 7-1 loss to Alva later Thursday.
Dewberry had three of the hits and Boeckman drove in the teams only run. Dick scored that run and collected two hits.
KHS got its second win over Okarche this season on Friday, this time by a 9-5 margin.
The Lady Jackets posted seven first-inning runs by taking advantage of seven hits and three walks.
Dick, Lukasek, Siera Stitt and Taylor Mills each had run-scoring hits. Dick had two hits in the inning and also got the win.
Okarche managed five hits in the five-inning game.
Pioneer knocked off the Lady Jackets 10-4 to cap pool play.
KHS was up 4-3 after two innings, but the host squad scored seven unanswered runs for the win.
Willson was 3 for 4 and drove in a run.
Dick was 2 for 4 and scored twice. Dewberry and Mills also had two hits each. Dewberry drove in a run.
KHS returned to District 4A-4 action Tuesday and was dealt a 10-0 loss at Bethany.
The win gave Bethany a sweep in the district series.
The loss dropped KHS to 2-7 in the district and 12-12 overall.
