Alva no match for Jackets on pitch
Kingfisher got a head start - literally - in the District 4A-2 soccer race.
The Lady Jackets shut out Alva 10-0 at home Tuesday to open district play and the scoring got started with a header from senior Maitland Pickle.
The goal, just five minutes into the match, came on a cross from Chelsea Johnson.
“It was an impressive play,” said head coach Fay Barnett, whose team improved to 3-2 overall. “You don’t see a lot of those plays at the high school level, but they pulled it off.”
The goal was the first of three on the night for Pickle, who has signed to play soccer at Southern Nazarene University.
She also scored at the 18’ and 46’ marks and added an assist.
Johnson, meanwhile, added two second-half goals.

Also scoring for KHS were Hannah Matthews, Nayeli Gutierrez and Emma Barnett.
Paige Yeoman earned the shutout, collecting seven saves along the way.
“She did really well, but defenders like Loren Ballard, Gina Franco and Shelby Butts also did a great job of protecting the goal,” Barnett said.
KHS boys also get 10-0 win

The junior scored four times and added three more assists as the Jackets thumped Alva 10-0 at home Tuesday to earn a sweep for KHS over the Goldbugs.
