Evans, Stephenson lead KHS girls to 3rd place
Zoey Evans and Ally Stephenson earned gold medals and Kingfisher finished third overall last Monday at the Western Conference Track & Field Meet in Elk City.
Stephenson won the long jump as she leapt 17 feet, 4 inches.
It tied the school record she set in March and was more than eight inches further than the runner-up.
It was one of four medals won by Stephenson and she led the Lady Jackets to 83 team points.
Tuttle won the conference crown with 144 and Weatherford was the runner-up with 132.
Cache took fourth with 48 points.
Stephenson was bested in the high jump for the first time this season.
Although she cleared 5-4 – her season-best – Tuttle’s Landry Allen cleared 5-6 to win gold.
That’s the height Stephenson jumped to win the 2019 4A state championship.
Stephenson was also third in the 400 and part of the bronze medal mile relay team along with Emily Myers, Andrea Becerra and Ashley Casillas.
Evans won her gold in the 3,200 meter run.
Her time of 12:56.85 was 35 seconds faster than Blanchard’s Eden Rutledge. Evans’ KHS teammate Jacee Mueggenborg was third in the event.
Evans medaled twice as Chesni Newkirk, Emmy Lunsford and Katon Lunsford joined her to win bronze in the 3,200 relay.
Kingfisher won gold in two junior high events and Scout Snodgrass took part in both.
She was the conference champion in the 3,200 meter run.
Snodgrass teamed up with Natalie Garrett, Liberty Starr and Harper Evans to win the 3,200 relay as well.
