In one form or another last week, COVID-19 completely changed up the Kingfisher girls basketball schedule and still had the team searching for a lost game early this week.

The Lady Jackets played just once last week - a 36-30 home defeat on Tuesday to Class 6A’s Edmond Santa Fe.

KHS was originally scheduled to host El Reno that night, but protocols kept the Lady Indians from being able to play.

That was again the case with Cache last Friday when the Lady Jackets found out the morning of the supposed road trip that they wouldn’t be making it.

Cache said it didn’t have ample players to play.

“That didn’t leave us any time to find a game for Friday,” said coach Gerrett Spears, who was still on the prowl Monday to fill an open spot early this week.

“We’re trying,” he said.

Against Santa Fe, Kingfisher led for a good portion of the first half before the Lady Wolves staked a 19-16 halftime advantage.

Kingfisher never go tback to even, but also never trailed by more than eight points.

KHS held Santa Fe to 32 percent shooting, but managed just 22 percent on its own.

Allison Green scored more than half the team’s points with 16 and she added a game-high 13 rebounds.

Emily Myers scored six points and Peyton Walker five.

The defeat snapped a three-game win streak the Lady Jackets collected in winning their own Buckle of the Wheatbelt Invitational the previous weekend.

That included a 58-48 win over 2A #12 Oklahoma Christian Academy in the championship game.

In shaking off a negative trend of starting slow, the Lady Jackets got behind Green’s hot start for a 23-10 first quarter lead.

Green nailed her first four 3-point attempts and five in the quarter.

The junior ended her night with 20 points.

Ally Stephenson added 12 and Britt Taylor 11.

KHS won the tournament after having finished runner-up each of the previous two seasons.

If the team is unable to schedule a game for the early portion of the week, its next game will be Friday when it hosts No. 1 Anadarko.

KHS is also scheduled to host Elk City on Saturday with the girls game to tipoff at 1:30 p.m.
