More like the Raider Classic

Lomega’s Noah Snowden and Hammon’s Michael Land ventured into a great scoring battle last weekend.

But Snowden was surrounded by a better cast and the Raiders made themselves Warrior Classic champs with a 55-51 victory over the host team in the finals.

Snowden and Land scored 25 points apiece and each had huge second-half efforts.

However, the Raiders got 12 points from Riley Lumpkin and 10 from Blake Snowden while Dion Fisher came through with eight.

The Warriors, meanwhile, only had one other player reach double figures as Lomega, ranked fourth in Class B, improved to 9-1.

The Raiders held a fivepoint lead at halftime as Land had 11 points and Snowden eight.

Snowden doubled that output in the third quarter alone, but Hammon was able to cut its deficit to three points.

In the fourth, Fisher knocked down three big buckets and Snowden scored nine more as Lomega kept its lead.

Snowden scored 20 in the team’s 68-36 victory against Erick in the semifinals.

The Raiders led 30-23 at halftime, but allowed just 13 second-half points.

Snowden alone had 10 after the break.

He was eventually named the tournament MVP.

Lumpkin added 17, which included a 14-point outburst in the first half. He made five 3-pointers on the night, including a trio of them in the first quarter.

Blake Snowden scored eight in the victory.

Blake Snowden and Lumpkin were also all-tournament team selections.

Lady Raiders grab 2nd straight title

Lomega has won the Warrior Classic and Lomega has beaten Hammon at the Warrior Classic.

But Lomega had never beaten Hammon in the finals of the Warrior Classic.

Well, until Saturday anyway.

Class B’s top-ranked Lady Raiders got - by far - their stiffest test of the season, but still managed a 60-45 victory against No. 6 Hammon in the championship game.

It was a repeat title for Lomega, which defeated Hammon in last year’s semifinals. Hammon had defeated the Lady Raiders in the previous two title games.

Down by four after a quarter, Lomega outscored Hammon 42-20 over the next 16 minutes to wrestle away control.

Sydni Walker scored eight points in a 17-7 second-quarter run.

Emma Duffy and Adysen Wilson started to warm up in the third.

Both seniors were limited to two points and one combined field goal in the first half, but Duffy scored eight and Wilson six in the third quarter that saw Lomega outscore the Lady Warriors 25-13.

Duffy finished the game with 13 points while Walker and Wilson added 12 apiece.

Hensley Eaton chipped in nine points while Abby Swart and Darcy Roberts netted seven apiece.

Lomega dominated Erick 67-20 in the semifinals.

Wilson, who was named the tournament MVP for the second straight year, led the way with 18 points.

Swart scored 15 and Roberts added 10.

Walker and Duffy, who joined Wilson on the all-tournament team, combined for 13 points.
