Late forfeits cost Jackets in dual

Forfeits in the final three weight classes saw the Kingfisher High School wrestling team drop a dual Tuesday at Watonga.
The Jackets led by 18 points entering the last four weight classes but eventually dropped a 36-30 decision.
Isaac Long received a forfeit win at 170 pounds to put KHS on top 30-12 before Kaden Miller was pinned at 182. KHS then surrendered forfeits at 195, 220 and heavyweight to allow the Eagles the comeback win.
KHS started building its lead at 138 pounds when Kole Lambert’s victory by fall put Kingfisher on top 18-12.
Fellow senior Presten Coughlan followed it up with his own pin at 145 pounds for a 24-12 advantage.
Neither team fielded a wrestler at 152 or 160 and then Long’s forfeit win at 170 gave the Jackets the largest lead at 30-12.
Gant Browning gave Kingfisher an early 6-0 lead with a pin at 113.
Watonga received a forfeit at 120 but Tyler Pecha’s forfeit win at 126 pushed KHS back on top by six points.
A win for Watonga at 132 tied the dual again before Lambert got his victory.
Kingfisher traveled to Cushing for a tournament over the weekend and has a dual at Casady Tuesday.
The Jackets host the Western Conference Tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the APB.
