Coughlan has most falls in abbreviated KHS tournament
In yet another way COVID-19 has affected sports, Kingfisher’s annual high school wrestling tournament was completed in just one evening this year.
Due to a number of teams having to drop out, the tournament was reduced to four teams, which set the stage for a round-robin format at all the weights...and even some weights being combined.
After it was over, one Yellowjacket was able to take home a big honor.
Senior Presten Coughlan earned “Most Falls” for his work at 132-138 pounds.
Coughlan went 5-0 in his matches and pinned all five foes.
His victims included Edmond North’s Jack Henry McNaughton (:54), Perkins-Tryon’s Blake Davis (5:15), Edmond North’s Wyatt Cargill (5:00), Perkins-Tryon’s Hagen Cundiff (1:26) and Crossings Christian’s Luke Warming (1:00).
Crossings’ Breighton Flores was named “Outstanding Wrestler.”
Flores pinned all four of his 170-pound opponents.
For Kingfisher, Grant Browning went 2-1 in his matches in the 106-113 grouping.
Other Jackets to win contested matches included Rhylee Toepfer at 120, Luie Torres at 160 and Braxton Shellstrom at 220-285.
Edmond North won the team title with 111
Perkins-Tryon was runner-up with 99.
KHS took third with 56 points and Crossings fourth with 45.
