Lomega’s almost unfair amount of depth was on display as it began defense of its most recent state title.

The Lady Raiders made 15 3-pointers, had four scorers in double figures and even let off the gas a little in their 97-47 victory against Dover on homecoming night.

Expectations are once again sky high as Lomega returns every starter from last season’s 30-2 team that won its final 27 games.

Those starters scored 58 points against Dover, including a game-high 22 from senior Adysen Wilson.

She nailed three of Lomega’s seven first-quarter 3-pointers as part of a 30-11 run to start the game.

Homecoming queen Emma Duffy made two more and finished her night with 16 points.

Sydni Walker scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half as Lomega’s lead grew to 57-21.

The other double-figure scorer was freshman Abby Swart, who adds to the team’s embarrassment of riches and made three 3-pointers as part of her 11 points.

Dover freshman Katelyn Harviston scored 19 points while Hope Caldwell scored 12.

The Lady Longhorns dropped to 0-2 on their season.

Raiders run Wednesday, beat Dover Friday

Six of Lomega’s boys basketball players competed Wednesday in the state cross country tournament.

Just two days later, they opened their season with a 68-32 win over visiting Dover.

Three of those runners - Riley Lumpkin, Hector Rivera and Dion Fisher - started as the Raiders got out to a 23-11 lead and outscored the Longhorns in every quarter.

Doing the most damage against the Lomega defense was Joriaun Caldwell, who scored 16 first-half points.

However, Lomega limited him to three in the second half and no other Longhorn reached double figures.

Lumpkin scored 19 to pace Lomega after being crowned homecoming king. He scored 10 in the big first quarter.

Noah Snowden added 16 points, 10 of which came in the second half.
