Luther too much for Hennessey
Luther scored with its offense and special teams while its defense forced three turnovers as Hennessey dropped its regular-season finale.
The Eagles scored last, but the Lions scored much more often in their 52-6 road win.
Hennessey enters the playoffs with a 3-5 overall record. It was 2-3 in District 2A-1 games and was ranked fifth by coaches after the final week.
The Eagles travel to Kellyville, which was fourth in 2A-2, for the first round of the playoffs.
Not much happened in the first half of the first quarter against Luther, but the Lions struck first when they blocked a Keigen Crites punt and returned it 47 yards for a score at the 5:50 mark.
That kickstarted 52 straight points by the Lions as Braden Browning threw for three scores and ran for two more.
Hennessey was able to chew up its share of time with the ball.
The Eagles ran for 170 yards on 48 attempts and had 17 first downs.
However, they managed just 87 passing yards as Sebastian Gonzalez was picked off three times.
Gonzalez was 9 of 21 for the day and ran for 67 yards. Langston Smith caught five of those passes for 50 yards.
Crites got the call 26 times and managed 105 rushing yards. He scored from a yard out in the fourth to give Hennessey its only score.
Freshman Man Valdez led the defense with 10 tackles.
Nykolaus Snyder, another freshman, had nine tackles.
