Dorothy Hawk
The funeral for Dorothy Jean Hawk, 91, was Friday, Sept. 25, at First United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. P. J. Stewart and Jimmy Berkenbile.
Burial will follow at Lyon Valley Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born in Hennessey on Feb. 19, 1929, to John and Helen Krebs Melendy and died Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, at Hennessey Care Center.
She married Donovan O. Hawk in Hennessey on April 9, 1947.
Dorothy was very active in the family’s dairy for many years.
She was also well-known for her beautiful custom cakes that she made for many occasions.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Lacy Card Club.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Jean Tate and husband Monty of Wichita, Kan.; two sons, Gary Hawk and wife Chandra and Jimmy Hawk and wife Kim, all of Hennessey; three brothers, Dale Melendy and wife Billie, Allen Melendy and wife Maxine, all of Hennessey, and Max Melendy of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Mary Hampton and husband Franke of Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, son John Hawk, brother Loren Melendy, sister Betty Gritz, one infant brother, one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.
