On a night when Kingfisher High School honored its softball seniors, it was a sophomore who provided the early spark before the upperclassmen made sure the victory was complete.

After missing the previous night’s game, Mya Dewberry returned to the lineup Tuesday and smashed a three-run home run over the left-center field wall.

The Lady Jackets didn’t stop there as they added nine more runs in a 12-2 District 4A-1 home win over McLoud.

The win helped KHS sweep the season series over the Lady Redskins as they improved to 3-4 in the district.

Dewberry’s first homer of the season put Kingfisher on the board, but it was seniors who delivered a bulk of the runs in the second.

Kaycee Karcher brought two runs home with her single. One of them was fellow senior Mia Farrell, who walked in the previous at-bat.

Two batters later, it was Olivia Wilcox sending two more across the plate with a double.

Karcher, Wilcox, Farrell and the injured Yanet Garcia were honored after the game on “Senior Night,” as was team manager Nate Smalley.

Up 8-0, the Lady Jackets tacked on a run with Emma Lukasek’s RBI single in the fourth.

Lukasek grabbed another RBI with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth.

Karcher and Wilcox collected two hits and two RBIs apiece. Karcher scored twice.

Dewberry had an additional RBI in the second inning and scored two runs.

Natalie Dick had a hit and two runs scored.

All that combined to give Wilcox another win in the circle.

She allowed two unearned runs over six innings.

McLoud managed just two hits while Wilcox struck out eight.

The Lady Jackets currently sit in fourth place in the district.

Currently in second is Newcastle, which handed KHS an 11-1 loss at home Monday.

Wilcox shut down the defending Class 4A state champs for three innings before the Lady Racers broke free with four runs in the fourth. They added seven more in the fifth.

Only four of the runs were earned as the Lady Racers took advantage of a pair of KHS errors.

Kingfisher had only four hits with the highlight being Taylor Mills’ solo home run in the fifth inning.

It was Mills’ second homer of the season.

Dick, Wilcox and Addyson O’Dell collected Kingfisher’s other hits.

The Lady Jackets were 14-8 overall after Tuesday’s win.
