OFBCA works toward making 2020 All-State game a reality

There will be an All-State football game after all…at least for now.

A contract is expected to be signed this week between the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association and Oklahoma Baptist University that allows the Shawnee school’s campus to host the annual All-State football game next month.

The game is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, July 25, at OBU’s Crain Family Stadium.

The contest is annually held the last week of July each year in conjunction with the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State games and clinic. Those events have been held the last several years in the Tulsa area.

However, due to COVID-19, the OCA called off this year’s events.

The OFBCA, which works with the OCA in staging the All-State game each year, including picking the rosters, stepped up this year to give outgoing seniors at least one final high school game.

“We still have health concerns and if the state decides we have to have another shutdown then obviously we will lose this game,” Jones told the Tulsa World. “We’re trying to make people aware of that possibility.”

Three local players and one coach are currently slated to take part in the game. Selected to the West squad in January were Kingfisher’s Wes Hine and Riley Myers and Cashion’s Ryan Baker.

Myers and Baker were tabbed as defensive linemen and Hine as an offensive lineman.

All three are expected to play collegiately.

Baker will be a preferred walk-on at Oklahoma State.

Myers signed to play at Northwestern Oklahoma State and Hine at Northern Iowa.

KHS head coach Jeff Myers will coach the West team this year. He’ll be assisted by Hobart’s Travis Sims, Noble’s Greg George and Edmond Santa Fe’s Daniel Maly.

Chris Elerick of Stroud will be the head coach for the East team. His assistants will include Adair’s Mark Lippe, Bethel’s Joey Ginn and Collinsville’s Kevin Jones are the assistants.
