Sheriff's Office Investigates Fatal Shooting, Related Rollover Crash
An Enid man died from gunshot wounds and a Guthrie man was flown to an Oklahoma City hospital after a rollover accident in a convuluted series of events near Hennessey Saturday night that Kingfisher County Sheriff Dennis Banther said he was still trying to unwind at press time Tuesday.
Kingfisher 911 received a call of shots fired at a location about 1.5 miles north of S.H. 51 on Cemetery Road about 9:40 p.m. Saturday. Christopher Shane Robinson, 33, the victim of the shooting, later succumbed to his injuries at an Enid hospital and was pronounced dead, Banther said.
Banther believes the shooting is related to a rollover accident that happened shortly after the shooting about two miles north of Hennessey on U.S. 81, which is being investigated by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.Benjamin Millis, 31, of Waukomis was driving a 2015 Toyota Tundra with Bonnie Millis, 27, of Waukomis, Michael Porter, 26, of Guthrie and a 4-year-old girl as passengers.
According to the OHP report, the vehicle left the roadway to the right and rolled an undetermined number of times before coming to rest in the west field. Porter was transported by helicopter to OU Medical Center where he was admitted in critical condition with a head injury. Bonnie Millis and the child were transported by Kingfisher Fire and Rescue to Bass Baptist Hospital in Enid where they were treated for injuries and released.
The driver was not reported injured and the cause of the accident is still under investigation, according to the OHP report.
Banther said the shooting victim’s body has been transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Oklahoma City for forensic investigation and interviews with witnesses are ongoing. He said his office has recovered the firearm but declined to name the make and caliber.
The shooting suspect, whom Banther also declined to identify pending further investigation, was questioned by authorities and then released.
The vehicle involved in the rollover and another abandoned vehicle, which appears to have sustained considerable damage, were both impounded, along with at least one other vehicle, Banther said.
Multiple people were present at the time of the shooting and interviews are ongoing, Banther said. The shooting and subsequent car crash may have been relate to a verbal altercation in the road outside a child's birthday party and the altercation may have involved several people in addition to the shooting victim and the shooter, Banther said.
Contrary to Facebook accounts, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has not been brought in on the case, which is being investigated by the sheriff’s office and OHP, Banther said. Once both agencies complete their reports, they will be submitted to the Kingfisher County District Attorney’s Office to determine what charges are warranted.
