2A, 4A STATE SCHEDULE
Two Kingfisher County basketball teams still have at least one game remaining this season.
The Cashion and Kingfisherboys’ teams will begin their quests for a gold ball when the state tournament for Classes 2A, 3A and 4A tips off Thursday at various sites around Oklahoma City.
The Class 2A boys, featuring Cashion, will be in Yukon for both the quarter-final and semifinal rounds before moving to State Fair Arena for the title game Saturday.
The Class 4A boys begin Thursday at Deer Creek High School before moving to the State Fairgrounds for the final two days.
In Yukon, No. 2 Cashion will play Hooker in the second game of the day at 3:30 p.m.
Hooker is making its eighth appearance at state and third in a row.
The ninth-ranked Bulldogs (25-2) beat No. 1 Oklahoma Union (61-55) in their regional championship and then unranked Pawhuska (51-34) for an area title.
Hooker reached the 2A semifinals in 2018 and was eliminated in the first round last year.
Cashion is making just its third appearance in program history.
The Wildcats reached the Class A quarterfinals in 1994 and semifinals in 1996.
This was the first time since 1997 that Cashion had even made the area tournament.
Over in Deer Creek, Kingfisher has the first game of the second session or the third game of the day.
The top-ranked Yellowjackets play Classen SAS at 7 p.m.
To be exact, Kingfisher is playing Classen School of Advanced Studies at Northeast.
The consolidation of some Oklahoma City Public Schools over last summer has this as one of the results.
It benefited Classen SAS - not to be confused with Northwest Classen - which is making its first appearance at state since 1980.
The Comets, ranked 12th, are 17-8, but come in as area champs.
They defeated an unranked but red-hot Newcastle squad, 64-46, in the area finals. They also beat No. 6 Broken Bow 93-87 in a regional final.
Broken Bow also went on to qualify for state.
The Jackets are making their 13th appearance.
This is their fourth straight trip and they’re also looking to reach the championship for the fourth year in a row.
KHS won the 4A title in 2017 and 2019 and was runner-up in 2018.
