Silo holds off late CHS comeback attempt

Andrea Taylor knows her team was oh-so-close to pulling off an upset over the weekend being just one win shy of the state tournament.

As it stands, her Cashion Lady Wildcats are going to need to win three straight games this weekend to reach that goal.

Cashion shrugged off a slow start against No. 2 Silo, but never could quite overcome the Lady Rebels in a 54-48 defeat in their 2A regional championship game at Boone-Apache High School last Saturday night.

Silo goes into Friday night’s area title game against Caddo.

Meanwhile, Cashion plays Oklahoma Christian Academy at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at SWOSU’s Pioneer Cellular Event Center in Weatherford.

The winner takes on the Merritt-Stratford winner at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Cashion fell behind Silo 12-5 in the first eight minutes of last week’s contest.

“I’d really like to have that quarter back,” admitted Taylor.

The deficit grew to 10 points at halftime and 12 after the third quarter, but Cashion never would let Silo pull away.

Instead, during the fourth, the Lady ‘Cats pulled Silo in the opposite direction and were within four points, with the ball, with about 1:30 remaining.

A turnover, however, helped Silo push back the momentum.

“We had to start fouling after that and they never let us catch back up,” Taylor said.

Cedar Stewart led a balanced Cashion attack with 14 points.

Lauren Lamb and Brook Shelly scored eight points apiece as Cashion fell to 17-9.

OCA is 15-12. It beat Walters 47-42 in overtime Saturday to win its regional consolation title.
