Crescent wins TRC; Battelo hits 1,000
Crescent standout Elizabeth Battelo saw limited action Tuesday, but still reached a career milestone.
The junior point guard scored five points before “tweaking” her knee in the first half at Calumet.
Coach Karl Butt didn’t play her the rest of the game and the Lady Tigers offense struggled without her in a 57-29 loss to the No. 3-ranked team in Class A.
Battelo’s total was enough to push her past 1,000 points for her career. However, she’ll be staying put at her current total until the playoffs.
Crescent wrapped up its regular season Friday against Perry (after press time), but Battelo wasn’t expected to play.
“I’m not going to risk it,” coach Karl Butt said.
With Battelo playing much of the first half against Calumet, Crescent only trailed 32-29 at the half.
However, the Lady Tigers didn’t score a point in the second half as Butt chose to sit most of his upperclassmen down the stretch.
“I’m going to mix up the lineups against Perry, too” Butt said of his 14-8 squad.
Incidentally, while Crescent was being dealt a loss, it was also winning a championship.
Cashion’s 38-34 win against Okarche locked up the Three Rivers Conference regular season title for Crescent.
The Lady Tigers finished the conference season with a 5-1 record. Cashion was also 5-1 while Okarche was 4-2.
Crescent beat both Cashion and Okarche in their regular-season games.
