Lady Warriors continue winning ways
It hasn’t always been easy and hasn’t always been pretty, but the Okarche girls basketball team keeps fi nding a way to win.
Last Friday was the latest example when, despite trailing at halftime and being pushed for four quarters, the Lady Warriors downed Thomas 42-34 on the road.
The win was the 14th straight for Okarche, which improved to 16-1. The Lady Warriors were ranked No. 4 in Class A when rankings were released Monday.
Okarche struggled to slow down Kyla Megli in the fi rst half as she drained 10 points in the fi rst quarter and 13 in the half as Thomas led 21-19.
But Okarche held Megli to just four points in the second half and limited Thomas to 13 overall.
The Lady Warriors took a three-point lead by the end of the third quarter and continued to build on it in the fourth.
Rachel McDowell and Madison Owens scored all 12 of Okarche’s points in the third.
McDowell scored seven in the quarter and 17 for the game.
Owens finished her night with 10. Kelsee Brown chipped in seven points.

Okarche struggled down the stretch and it cost the Warriors a conference road win.
The Warriors were outscored 11-4 in the fourth quarter as Thomas came from behind to win, 47-42, last Friday night.
“For us to win games, we have to value every possession and play with extreme intensity and we didn’t do that,” coach Aaron West said.
The Warriors led by two points entering the fourth and by as many as four in the fi nal quarter.
However, scoring was an issue the final few minutes.
Okarche shot just 30 percent (13 of 44) for the game and missed 9 of 21 foul shots.
Thomas was only 5 of 16 from the foul line, but made up for it by shooting 45 percent overall.
The Warriors were led by Kaleb Harris’s 25 points. Logan Kroener added 10.
Okarche fell to 10-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
