Lady Raiders win district; boys upset
Okeene pulled off one of the big surprises early this playoff season and it came at Lomega’s expense.
The Whippets first eliminated Dover on Friday night, then handed ninth-ranked Lomega an 80-53 defeat Saturday on the Raiders’ home court in their Class B district championship.
“I knew they were capable of playing well enough to beat us,” said Lomega coach Justin Edsall. “But it was a surprise how it happened.
“We just didn’t do anything well.”
What Lomega didn’t have was an answer for Jacob Wilson.
The Whippet scored nine points in the first quarter as Okeene raced to a 23-11 lead.
Lomega never recovered. The Raiders cut their deficit to nine points by halftime, but it was back to 16 points entering the fourth.
