Large school playoffs start this weekend
The county’s small schools began their basketball playoffs last week.
The larger schools follow suit this weekend.
District tournaments begin Friday across the state in Classes 2A, 3A and 4A. In Class 4A, KHS will host Harding Charter Prep in a 4A district on Saturday. The girls will tipoff at 6:30 p.m. at the APB. The boys follow at 8.
(Ed. note: For a more thorough look at the KHS basketball teams, see our special section on Pages 3B-5B of this edition.)
Both schools will advance to the following week’s regional.
In Class 2A, some area teams aren’t as fortunate as their seasons will be on the line Friday in elimination games.
That includes the Crescent boys and girls as they host Tonkawa on Friday in 2A, Area I.
The losers of those games will be eliminated. The winners advance to play Luther in district championships Saturday in Crescent.
In 2A, Area III, the Hennessey girls also face elimination Friday when they play Hinton at Fairview.
The winner advances to Saturday’s district title game with Fairview.
Hennessey’s boys will await the winner of Friday’s Hinton-Fairview matchup.
Also in Area III, Cash-ion’s boys and girls are in district championship games that they’ll host Saturday night.
Cordell and Watonga will play elimination games Friday for the right to advance to play Cashion.
