KHS boys cruise past Cache, 70-34

Cache came into Kingfisher last Friday night with a double-digit win over No. 7 Anadarko under its belt.

But it also came into the game without its best scoring threat, Mason Cox, who moved to Velma-Alma over the break.

The former was just enough to get No. 1 Kingfisher’s attention. The latter spelled extra bad news for the visiting Bulldogs.

With no real go-to scorer, Cache had no real chance to win during a 70-34 defeat at the APB.

The Jackets outscored Cache by double digits in each of the first three quarters and the Bulldogs had just 18 points going into the fourth.

That made it tough to keep up with KHS, which had 18 points in 3-pointers alone by halftime.

Two of those came from senior Harrison Themer, who got his first start of the season.

He promptly nailed treys from the corner in each of the first two quarters as Kingfisher built a 26-point lead.

Three more treys came from Matthew Stone, who had his best outside shooting night to this point in his junior campaign.

Stone made two in the first quarter and had 13 points by the break.

He finished 4 of 6 from 3-point range and fi nished with 19 points. All of those points came through three quarters.

Stone also led the team, along with Jarret Birdwell, with seven rebounds while adding four assists.

As a team, KHS was 11 of 25 from long range.

Themer had three overall while Bijan Cortes added two more. Cortes fi nished his night with 17 points and seven assists. Themer and Birdwell scored nine apiece. Kingfisher was 6-0 after the win. KHS has won 28 straight games dating back to last season’s lone loss on Dec. 28, 2018, at the Tournament of Champions.
