Tuesday night crash claims four lives, OHP reports

An SUV driver and three passengers were killed Tuesday night south of Kingfisher when their vehicle collided from behind with the trailer of a commercial truck parked on the shoulder of U.S. 81, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol news release. The accident occurred about 7:25 p.m. about  three miles south of Kingfisher on the southbound shoulder.

Kenneth Sanford Marshall, 39, of Chanute, Kan., the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, Sabrina Ann Shrum, 24, of Enid, the front seat passenger, and Kenneth Marshall, 62, of Oklahoma City, another passenger were pronounced dead at the scene due to massive injuries sustained in the crash, according to the OHP release. Another passenger, Adeanna Marshall, 52, of Oklahoma City, was flown to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City by Air Evac helicopter, where she was admitted in critical condition and later succumbed to massive injuries and was pronounced dead, according to the release. A fourth passenger, Mikeal Jantz, 30, of Enid, was transported to OU Medical Center by Kingfisher EMS and was admitted in critical condition with head, trunk and leg injuries.

Jess Alan Parsons, 53, of Ringold, the driver of the 2019 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer parked on the shoulder, was transported by Kingfisher EMS to Mercy Hospital Kingfisher, where he was treated for injuries and released. According to the U.S. DOT number listed on the OHP report, the parked semi belonged to Starr Oilfield Service LLC in Tulsa.

Both vehicles were equipped with seatbelts but only the driver and front seat passenger in the SUV and the semi driver were belted in, according to the OHP release.

Kingfisher Fire Department worked for four and a half hours to free the driver and front seat passenger of the SUV, who were pinned in the collision. Southbound lanes of the highway were closed for that time and southbound traffic was diverted off the highway to the west to detour around the crash site.

The accident is still under investigation, including the condition of both drivers, according to the OHP release.

James Loftis, troopers Jimmy Chaloupek, Tanner Beckner, David Hellums, Matthew Ledbetter and Charity Robertson, Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office, Okarche Police Department and Kingfisher Fire Department and EMS.
